Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the Storage Survey. You all shared lots of great ideas and I wanted to share a few of them with you.markers

Leann Cooper of Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD suggested asking furniture stores for empty boxes that large pictures come in. These boxes are great for storing posters and bulletin board materials. They aren’t very wide so they fit between filing cabinets or behind bookshelves easily. Melinda Samples, also from Daingerfield, uses old coffee cans and film canisters to store manipulatives and craft items.

Shirley Bingham uses plastic milk crates for storage. Most are 12 X 12 inches and are very sturdy. These crates are great for storing books and supplies but can also be used for filing, as file folders fit perfectly when you use hanging folders. These can be found in most offic supply stores, but standard milk crates work just as well and can be found through a variety of sources.

Small disposable food containers are great for storage. Catalina Amaral of Brownsville, TX uses them to keep complete sets of crayons neat and tidy. They stack easily and are very inexpensive. Andrea Caraway, of Pewitt CISD, stacks old plastic school boxes and labels each box with it’s contents.

We are surrounded by good ideas, if we just open our minds to the possibilities and the materials around us. Thanks to these teachers for allowing us to share their great ideas! For more storage ideas from my favorite discount online store, check out Oriental Trading for some colorful solutions!
