At the beginning of each class I use a warm up or “Quickstart”, that includes questions that refer to the lesson material from the day before. This method of review shows me if students understood what was taught the day before. If student’s don’t perform well on these Quickstart reviews, I know that I have to go back and make clarifications before moving on.

How to create a Quickstart Review

I put an example or a question from yesterday’s lesson up on PowerPoint. Students work out the example or answer the question the first few minutes of class. It serves as a quick review/reinforcement. That’s all it takes: Only 1 question or example per day for the first 5 minutes of class.
