Education has changed dramatically over the years. Gone are the days of carrying a bookbag filled with loose leaf paper, pencils, and textbooks. Today, students are much more likely to walk into a classroom with a tablet under their arms and schedule Skype meetings with their professors instead of stopping by office hours.
When you get discouraged in your attempts to help your students, to reach them with your message, remember that one person in your life that made a difference for you. One person CAN make a difference. That person is you. You only need to believe you CAN.
Many students think of multiple choice tests as “easy” tests, but the truth is, they can be very difficult. From “none of the above” and “all of the above” questions to the shorter amount of time many teachers allot for taking multiple choice tests, these tests can be much more challenging than students expect.
In this age of age of media overload, it’s important that we recognize and monitor what our children are exposed to, especially our adolescents and teen, so that we can help them to understand, and cope with, the ideas that they seen in the media. During middle and high school, our children are transitioning from child to adulthood and the images and media that surrounds them affects how they see themselves, as well as their place in the world.
We live in an age of media overload and it's important that we recognize and monitor what our children are exposed to, so that we can help them to understand what is “real” and what is not. Also, we need to know what they are watching, so that we can teach them to “think” about, and question, what they see in the media.
