A recent study finds that a child’s weight plays a significant role in whether they are bullied or not. “New research suggests that just being overweight increases the risk of being bullied. And factors that usually play a role in the risk of being bullied, such as gender, race and family income levels, don’t seem to matter if you’re overweight — being overweight or obese trumps all those other factors when it comes to aggressive behavior from other children.” I wonder how much being overweight also impacts a child’s self-esteem and the way they carry themselves. Though we are more accustomed to seeing overweight children, the American culture and media still promotes the “thin” as the ideal we should all thrive for.
