Kindle Apps Won’t Read Your eBooks

We recently discovered that the Kindle App, for both iPad and Android tablets, no longer supports .prc file formats.

Instead, the app appears to only accept .azw files which are, essentially, just copy protected versions of the .prc or .mobi files many of us are accustomed to.

This is a problem for us because all of my ebooks were built in .prc format, which was the standard at the time they were built. Luckily, there is an easy way to deal with this issue.

How to Read Your .prc  or .mobi eBooks with a Kindle App

1. Your Kindle account has a special email address associated with it. To find your special kindle address, just log in to your account at Amazon.com, go in to your Account information, and click on the “Manage Your Kindle” link in the Digital Content section.

2. Once you have your address, you can simply email any book you’ve purchased or downloaded from us in .prc or mobi  format to your Kindle email address. Amazon will convert the book for you and make it available to you in your Kindle library.

Another way to deal with this issue is to download and install the Nook app from Barnes & Noble, then download your books in .epub format and use the Nook app to read them.
